In 2006, a researcher in Pavia was studying how different kinds of music affect the body. The relaxing tracks worked, a little. The part that surprised him was the silence between songs. Two-minute pauses dropped blood pressure and slowed the heart more than any of the music had.

The lesson was not about music. It was about the gap.
